On the eve of Thaipusam, we send you greetings from Penang!

Penang is a just a beautiful island, with wonderful people, and we have fallen in love with it! In our short stay we have seen monkeys in our back yard, cows & roosters walking the streets, weasels foraging in the trash, and mudd skippers slithering up the coast. Fashion here is something else, we've seen everything from the mini skirt to the burka, and from saris to kimonos. The Hawaiian Shirt, the bright satin skirt, the Fez, or the Hari Krishna pajama set are all popular choices for men. The weather has been fantastic -- hot and breezy with blue skies. Fernandito and Mati started school on Monday, and seem to be enjoying going to the same school together. My mom has been fantastic, really helping out so much with the kids. Fernando & I started work, and were greeted by a warm and enthusiastic team.
Driving on the island is another story ... in 3 days we've crashed once, and been lost 10+ times , one of which resulted in a 2 hour detour taking us over the longest bridge in South East Asia. There are mopeds (motor skooters), trucks (lories), taxis (teksi), cars, and people everywhere, all weaving in and out of traffic up and down winding streets. Fernando has been the only one brave enough to take the wheel (on the right hand side of course), and as for me, I postponed receiving my car until I can find a driver. (the locals just keep saying "No worries, Auntie, you'll soon learn")
We appreciate all the emails we've received so far, we miss everyone very much! Please email to us soon, we want to know everything that is going on in the states.
You really must come visit us, it is really fantastic here!
